EXPLORING PARIS wıth Augmented REALITY: A Journey INTO VIRTUAL TEACHıNG

For our recent assignment, my group and I (Elif, Meryem, İrem, and I) dove into the world of augmented and virtual reality to create an interactive teaching material. The task was to guide students in exploring a city abroad using AR/VR tools, and we chose the magnificent city of Paris.

Our project started with extensive research about Paris and its iconic landmarks. We decided to introduce the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Museum. Using Canva, we designed a visually appealing handout that included pictures of these landmarks. But we didn't stop there—we wanted the experience to be immersive. So, we linked each image to 3D objects and 360-degree videos using QR codes. By scanning the codes, students could virtually explore the Eiffel Tower, wander through the Louvre's and Notre Dome's corridors as if they were there in person.

To make the exploration engaging, we crafted thought-provoking questions for each landmark. For example, we asked, “When was the Eiffel Tower built?” and “If you visited the Louvre, which artwork would you admire the most and why?” These questions aimed to spark curiosity and encourage critical thinking.

We didn’t limit the journey to landmarks. To provide a deeper cultural insight, we introduced traditional French cuisine. Students could explore iconic dishes like croissants through linked videos, followed by reflective questions about their preferences and impressions.

The final touch was the project task. We asked students to imagine they had spent a day in Paris and write a postcard describing their experiences. Alternatively, they could guide a friend planning a trip, recommending places to visit and foods to try.

This collaborative experience taught me a lot—not just about AR/VR integration but also about teamwork and creativity. The process of designing, linking, and presenting this material was challenging yet incredibly rewarding. It opened my eyes to the endless possibilities of combining technology with education, making learning interactive and fun.
